In Shift your mind, Steve Chandler dramatically unveils all the processes and techniques he uses with his clients (and himself) to produce the mind shifts that lead to happiness, prosperity and a peaceful sense of fulfillment in life.
1. Opportunity is already here
I used to wait around and hope somebody would give me a big opportunity. I used to think that was what I needed…so that I could show what I could do! I used to think that way.
Those were the days before the mind shifts started… those were the days when I thought thoughts like these:
“When someone gives me the right opportunity, watch me!”
“When I get the right job, I’ll be happy.”
“When I segue into a proper career that’s my true calling, then I’ll be able to display my true talent–the real me.”
Then one day my mind shifted to this: You can display the real you right now. You can have it be in every encounter. You can light up even the smallest task with enthusiastic creativity if you want to. That’s the whole meaning of shifting the mind. There can be light in every word.
2. How to acquire power and magic
Whatever it is, begin it. Just begin. Don’t think about doing the whole thing. You don’t have to do the whole thing. You never have to do the whole thing. Just begin.
Most people don’t begin because they are thinking of the whole thing. But the very thougth of the whole project soon becomes overwhelming, and they decide that they can’t start this now.
“I’ll have to wait till there’s a lot more space in my life…and a lot more time…certainly after certain other projects are done.”
But if you are thinking of adding something good to your life, just start.
Our societies encourage us not to begin…it encourages us to hang back and seek safety and comfort. Most products and services advertised day and night are designed to make us more comfortable and less challenged.
And yet, only challenge rocks the soul.
Only challenge causes movement. Only challenge will test our skills and make us better. Only challenge and the boldness to engage the challenge will transform us. Every challenge we face is an opportunity to create a more skillful, powerful self.
And how do we face a challenge? We begin. We begin something. It can be small.
3. Try to be a rebel with cause
Let’s say you are just learning how to drive, and you’re driving a sports car and James Dean is sitting next to you and you’re down there in second gear and the car’s engine is kind of whining and complaining because you won’t shift–you don’t know how to shift!
How embarrassing. Your one time to be with James Dean and look at you.
And that poor car just shakes and whines.
And that’s your life.
Because you don’t know how to shift.
Over-stressed with problems. Dark rumblings under your floorboards. Don’t you know the feeling? But shifting isn’t hard. It’s kind of upward, circular motion–like a spiral upward. People just don’t know. If they’re never driven a sports car, they don’t know what shifting really is and how much a spiral motion can set us free.
But if you have driven a stick shift kind of car, you know that when you shift, the car starts to glide into a new level of speed. It now flows along the road and things are freer.
But after a while, when you’re in that next gear too long, it feels like a little stressed again, it can’t hold where the car wants to go, so it’s time to shift again.
Well, your mind, your soul, your heart, your life, your brain, your whole complex picture is the same way…waiting for the shift gear inside the mind to find the spiral motion needed. The shift. Because when you shift your mind the world shifts with you.
When the mind is open, it will shift.
When that happens all of life becomes, momentarily, light as feather. Light as the breeze. Beautiful! You go up to the next level of consciousness: and…creativity, energy, vibration–whatever you want, you’ve got it. You can feel it, because you’re gliding now.
You feel like an angel.
The gearshift knob is in your mind and it says to you if you want it–here it is–come and get it.
